Many services firms have Internet technology consultants; at Milliman we advise on technology together with operations. Our consultants are experienced in the key issues related to healthcare operations and the use of technology to support them. When you speak with Milliman technology and operations experts about a project you should know:

  • Our consultants have decades of experience in healthcare.
  • The consultants you meet are the ones who will work with you.
  • We will help guide you to a solution.

We are familiar with all facets of healthcare, understand your issues, and have experience working successfully with all levels of staff. One of our well-known strengths is providing data warehouse solutions to healthcare payors. Another is MedInsight®—which includes standard database structures, loading and aggregating tools, proprietary Milliman analytics, and integration with third-party reporting tools.

MedInsight identifies cost savings for health plan

A 600,000-member health plan wanted to reduce costs. By using MedInsight to benchmark performance, conduct trend analysis, find high-cost and high-risk populations, and analyze disease categories, the plan identified $38 per member per month in potential savings.

New rating system solution saved a plan $50 million

Milliman consultants developed an experience-based rating system for a large healthcare plan. Milliman was involved in the initial requirement gathering and design, architecting, coding, testing, and documentation of the system. We provided guidance on data quality issues, process flow, hardware selection, software testing methodologies, and policies and procedures related to using the system.

This system now rates all of the plan’s large groups, a book of business valued at over $1 billion per year. The plan estimated that in the first 12 months the system was in use, it saved more than $50 million through better rate setting, paying for itself more than 10 times over.
