A holistic approach to healthcare

Pang Chye: Milliman has a very, very long history of expertise and knowledge in terms of healthcare, and I think what makes us uniquely qualified is that our firm doesn't only comprise a group of actuaries; our firm also comprises people who look at the delivery side of care. We look at the administration, we look at IT systems in healthcare. So when we look at these sorts of issues, we look at it holistically. We are not just looking at—although we are tackling a financing problem, we are not just looking at the financing side of the equation in isolation because we are talking about a system that is overall sustainable, and so when we come up with a financing solution, we are not just looking at it from one angle. We are looking at it from all angles, including the delivery of care, the administration, the IT infrastructure required to support it.
